Joycee currently resides in New York City where she works as a pricing associate for a Fortune 100 energy company. In addition to her community activities, she loves traveling, spending quality time with her beloved family and friends and educating herself on business topics and concepts. With every new opportunity that presents itself, she lives and breathes Philippians 4:13 which says “I can ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.” Joycee Awojoodu will represent Enugu State in the 2008 Miss Nigeria in America Beauty Pageant. These assignments are designed to prepare them for the pageant and in the process teach the delegates more about Nigeria; challenge their minds on resolutions for imminent problems in Nigeria and also educate them on social issues affecting Nigerian women in particular and women in general. IWith each passing week the assignments will be posted here along with the delegate's essay response. You have been selected to represent your assigned state in the 2008 Miss Nigeria in America Beauty Pageant and your first task is to address the citizens of Nigeria . You are required to write an essay on your assigned state in Speech Format.
The intention of this speech is to educate the citizens of Nigeria about the state you will represent. The bullet points listed below are just a few examples to guide you. Please research in depth about your state. Add anything else you deem important and relevant about the state. (Please assume that the people whom you are addressing have little or no knowledge about the state):
In 2008, MNIA Inc. adopted a new mission statement, 'Service and Commitment to the Community.'
You have been crowned Miss Nigeria in America 2008. To kick off your reign, you have been invited to your city council for a luncheon and discussion with the Mayor in your city of residence about the new mission statement that MNIA, Inc. has adopted. Your task is to provide your opinion(s) and your thought(s)on the most pressing issue(s) facing your community. You also want to inform the Mayor on how to as the new Miss Nigeria in America 2008 you will align this new MNIA mission statement with the community that you will serve. The Mayor also wants to know what steps you would take to implement an effective and efficient change on these pressing issue(s). You are required to present this Report Format addressed to your Mayor. Dwight Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States of America said the famous character quote, "The qualities of a great man/woman are "vision, integrity, courage, understanding the power of articulation, and profundity of character." As the current Miss Nigeria in America 2008, you have been invited to speak at a high school graduation. Your task is to pick one of the qualities in Eisenhower's quote and describe how these qualities can mould an individual to achieve greater heights in life. You are also required to provide an example of a person with a similar quality who has influenced you positively in your journey growing up to be a strong woman. One of the major aspects of the Miss Nigeria In America Beauty Pageant is cultural diversity. You were assigned to represent a Nigerian state outside your state of origin. In your first assignment you were asked to to write a research paper about your state. As you know, every state in Nigeria has several diversed ethnic groups and cultures. Assuming you have been selected as the Miss Nigeria in America 2008, you are required by MNIA, Inc. to adopt a village in the state that you have represented during the Beauty Pageant. The organization requires that you prepare a report with the following documentation: Your report should also include the reasons you chose this particular village and the contributions you think you can make in thier lives as the new Miss Nigeria in America. You have written about the state you are representing, you have also written about the new mission statement for MNIA, Inc. You have spoken to high school students about "Integrity, Vision, Courage as well as the profundity of character. Your last assignment was to research and adopt a village in your state and write about the way of life and the social amenities that the village lacks. President Yar'adua has read all these wonderful reports that you have written and has invited you to speak at the 2009 Nigerian Women Conference in Abuja. The speech would address the global issues that women face in Nigeria. As the ambassador of social change, you are required to address these issues and provide ideas or solutions that can help effect change on these issues. Assignment #6 -The National Pledge COMMUNITY SERVICE - VOLUNTEER The 2008 Miss Nigeria in America Delegates have been tasked to volunteer for 6-weeks in any organization of their choice. It is the goal of MNIA, Inc. to teach the delegates on being empathetic, learn the essence of giving back and learn how to manage their time properly to help those in need. Each week, the delegates send in their journals, they write stories on their 2 hour a week activity detailing their experiences and challenges. For her charity work Joycee Awojoodu is volunteering with Nigerian Nurses Association Website: During these upcoming weeks and even after the pageant, my dream is to collaborate with others and this organization to spearhead a forum/initiative that will create more awareness concerning the hereditary disease: Sickle Cell Anemia. Coming from a family that has been afflicted with this hereditary disease, and knowing the prevalence in Nigeria, I am a firm believer that we need to be doing as much as possible in the United States to see a cure for this disease and to educate others in our community.
