2008 MISS NIGERIA IN AMERICA BEAUTY PAGEANT COMPETITION

There are approximately 16 delegates that will compete for the title “Miss Nigeria in America 2008.” 

First Round of the 2008 Miss Nigeria in America Pageant Competition (July 6 – August 23, 2008)
The first round of the competition will include 6 weeks of assignments, 6 weeks of volunteer activity and a final MNIA Program essay.  The assignments will be graded and the points would be added to the scores for the main competition on Saturday, August 30, 2008.

Second Round of the 2008 Miss Nigeria in America Pageant Competition (Thursday, August 28, 2008)
The second round of the competition will include the MNIA Program and Discussion. This interview will be graded and the points will be added to the scores for the main competition on Saturday, August 30, 2008.  See description below:

MNIA Program and Discussion (Pre Interview before the pageant)

Each delegate will choose an MNIA program that they wish to take on. The panel of interviewers will focus on the delegate’s articulation, presentation of MNIA program, and knowledge of subject matter of program that they choose.    They will also focus on how realistic the implementation program plan chosen by delegate in terms of carrying out those duties should the delegate win the 2008 Miss Nigeria in America title. 

Main Event – Round One (Saturday, August 30, 2008)
On Saturday, August 30, 2008 the delegates of the 2008 Miss Nigeria in America Beauty Pageant will compete in business professional look, swimsuit and the Traditional wear competition.  The scores from the first round and second round will be added to the Main Event – Round One and only 10 delegates will advance to Main Event – Round 2.  See description below for details on the different categories.

Business Professional Look

Each delegate wears a business suit of her choice that shows her overall professional look in a business setting.  Judges will focus on overall appearance, professional look and sense of style. Judges will lay more emphasis on your business look and your ability to exude the professional side of a beauty queen
*This is a new section that has been added to the pageant.  Delegates will wear a business suit that shows their professional side. Props are also allowed (Briefcase, Folder, Blackberry etc).

Swimsuit

Each delegate wears a swimwear approved by the coordinators of the 2007 Miss Nigeria in America Beauty Pageant.  Judges will focus on figure, physical fitness, and the confidence with which each contestant carries herself.
*Delegates will wear swimsuits that best compliments their bodies. It could be a two piece or a one piece. V-cuts or Thongs are not allowed.

Nigerian Native Wear

Each delegate would wear a native Nigerian traditional wear of her choice. Judges lay prominence on the ensemble of the native attire. Emphasis is also placed on originality and sense of style.
*Delegates do not have to wear the traditional attire of their assigned states. All Nigerian traditionals are acceptable.

Main Event – Round Two (Saturday, August 30, 2008)

The Final 10 delegates will compete in the Talent, Evening Gown and the Question and Answer segment.  At this stage, the competition starts off on a clean slate.  There are no previous scores used in this round of the competition.  See description below for details on the different categories. 

Talent

Each delegate will be allocated three minutes for the talent performance. Talent performances include but are not limited to vocal performances, dance, dramatic monologues, original poetry, instrumentals and comedy presentations. Each delegate would be judged on originality and difficulty of talent performed.

Evening Gown/Question and Answer (2 Part Segment)

Each delegate will wear an evening gown that represents her grace and style and a gown she has chosen for herself.  Judges focus on each delegates overall appearance, self-confidence, sense of style and the beauty she brings to the gown of her choice.  Each delegate will also answer a question submitted by a fellow delegate. These questions range from politics, social activities, women issues, and life experiences.  Judges will focus on delegate’s articulation and presentation.

Final Round

Final Question/Answer
Only 5 delegates will advance to the final round.  The scores from Round two will carry over to this segment.  The 5 finalists will answer one final question and the winner of the 2008 Miss Nigeria in America Beauty Pageant will be chosen.
